2021 Scholarship

Every single one of us has a unique chapter to describe the unprecedented time in history that was the year 2020.

Rather than recap all the challenges, hardships and loss that occurred in my particular story, I’d like to share some love, kindness and hope for the year ahead with some generosity and a great opportunity.

Read on to see how I plan on giving back to my community, honoring my late father, celebrating students achievements and supporting the future of healthcare…

Scholarship has always been important to me

If you knew me in high school, you would have seen me give a speech on scholarship as one of the four pillars of National Honor Society.

If you were a mentor of mine during the college years, you’d remember me asking for a letter of recommendation.

During my 20 years as an honor student, one of my favorite memories from participating in the scholarship process was being invited to the Arnold Classic Sports Festival in Ohio to personally receive a scholarship award from the International Chiropractic Association and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself.

Over the years, various scholarships have given me indescribable financial and professional opportunities which have contributed to my growth into the Doctor that you see today.

I always knew that I would pay it forward when I had the chance, and fortunately my circumstances have finally allowed me to do so in 2021.

I am so proud and excited to share the

Steven M. Dreiling Memorial Scholarship

in honor and memoriam of my father who was one of my biggest supporters throughout my academic and professional journey.

Read on to learn a little bit more about the history behind this scholarship and how to apply…

Steven M. Dreiling Memorial Scholarship

Steven M. Dreiling was a proud United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1970 - 1976 on the U.S.S. Independence. He held a career at Westinghouse Philips Lighting and transferred to the New York Plant in 1988, serving as the Human Resources Manager for 17 years.

In 2006, Mr. Dreiling suffered a significant stroke and subsequently was unable to continue his career. Over the next 15 years, he faced many health related challenges and obstacles that required significant medical intervention and care. Despite the endless Doctors visits, hospitalizations, and medications, Steve somehow persevered and never lost his sense of humor.

In March of 2020, Mr. Dreiling was hospitalized and then transferred to an in-patient rehabilitation facility to gain strength with the goal of returning home. While in the rehab facility, his room mate was diagnosed with Corona Virus and Mr. Dreiling tested positive as a result of that exposure. Within a week’s time, Steve passed away from complications due to Covid 19 at the height of the pandemic.

This scholarship has been established with the intention of honoring his legacy and supporting the future of healthcare. This scholarship is a one time award of $1,000 and all Hammondsport Central School graduating seniors planning to matriculate college in the fall are eligible to apply.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances caused by the pandemic, my family is one of the many who have been unable to hold a service or find closure since his passing. I believe offering this scholarship will bring some peace and healing to the situation we have endured and I know my dad would be so proud of every person that participated.

Please share with anyone that is eligible and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

I can't wait to read your essays and wish the best of luck to all that apply!
